Welcome back to School, Visayanians! Opening of Classes A.Y. 2020 - 2021.
It is my distinct honor to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the University of the Visayas, the first University in Cebu. Rest assured that I will hold it firmly with vigilance, dynamism and proactive stance, for there will be great challenges ahead to confront and overcome. The outbreak of the corona virus 2019 (COVID 19) pandemic has undoubtedly caused a great deal of concern among all of us.
As the new Chief Executive Officer of the University, I have been carefully monitoring the situation over the period. We have prepared the University’s Continuity Plan for the Academic Year 2020-2021 to cope with this crisis. The precautionary measures to contain the spread of the virus will be implemented so that members of the academic community may safely pursue their studies, researches, and administrative duties.
It is with humility and a burning passion to realize the goals I have outlined that I accept wholeheartedly the highest position of the University of the Visayas.
As part of our transition to flexible learning strategies through modular approach, synchronous and asynchronous online learning, the University of the Visayas will be relying on our partnership with our industry partners, developing various online tools and platforms for classroom instruction. I instructed our faculty members to utilize these resources to continue our educational and academic efforts in pursuing our e-learning and internationalization roadmap.
Building our quality culture mindset will be our top priority. We must build most efficient organization possible. We must use every available resource to recruit and retain the very best students, faculty and employees. The recent reorganization of the institution is the first step. The Executive Board, senior leaders and in consultation with faculty, non-teaching personnel, students, alumni and other stakeholders will continue to review methods and processes to provide quality education and excellent services that can satisfy the school’s stakeholders which are crucial for ensuring long-term UV’s success.
I firmly believe that quality begins and ends with the individual; quality people do quality work. Human resources manage processes and make the systems work; processes don’t do work, people do. It is people who make poor systems work and good systems fail. In short, quality is the expression of human excellence. The key factor to success of any organization is a product of a culture that creates and sustains a workplace that is conducive to continuous quality improvement.
We must institutionalize a culture of promptness, civility, courtesy and respect as we respond to the needs of our internal and external constituents. While I am very excited about some initiatives, I intend to ground these ideas by conducting series of dialogues and meetings with all of the UV constituencies. To our students, we thank you for choosing UV and we assure you of our commitment to fully support and provide you with what you came to us for a well- rounded, relevant education that prepares you for the future and empowers you for success.
We set our new vision, mission statements and core values during the Annual Management Review and Planning of the university participated by all sectors. What all these translate to is this: you are in good hands. You have come to the right place. We, your Visayanian family, shall do everything we can to give you the best. In the meantime, let us work together and our prayer is to end the spread of the virus as soon as possible. I call on every member of the community to remain vigilant and continue to take precautionary measures.
The COVID-19 pandemic situation teaches us valuable lessons of perseverance, innovation, compassion and loyalty to our families, communities, our nation and our world as we get through this together as one UV team.
My very best wishes for a successful and productive Academic Year 2020-2021.
God bless us all.
Dr. Conrado E. Iñigo, Jr.
